The health benefits of drinking coffee

October 20, 2016

We know that espresso lovers probably don't need an excuse to brew themselves a delicious coffee-based drink at least once a day... but there could be some good news for those who can't resist that daily caffeine hit.

Not everything you read on the internet is true, but plenty of articles point to research that has linked drinking coffee regularly to a reduced chance of various diseases, while making you a happier person.

Coffee has high levels of antioxidants, and reported to be the number one source of antioxidants in the US. This could be helping to protect drinkers from heart disease, certain types of cancer, and Type 2 diabetes. Harvard researchers report that heavy coffee drinkers tend to increase their resting metabolism rates, which could keep diabetes at bay.

A recent Investopedia article cites benefits such as reduced chances of developing gallstones (men drinking 2 – 3 cups per day are "40% less likely to develop symptomatic gallstone disease") and cancer (1 – 3 cups per day could reduce the risk of prostate cancer by 29%, and coffee drinkers appear to be 50% less likely to contract liver cancer than non-coffee drinkers).

Studies have also indicated that coffee - even just smelling it - could make you happier and reduce stress levels. This is more likely to be due to the antioxidants than the caffeine, so a cola won't do the trick.

Whether you drink it for happiness or health, the Flair Espresso Maker helps you brew a professional quality espresso at home (or wherever you are) - and feel pretty happy while you are doing it.
